Each month Abington Library will feature a favorite book from a faculty, staff member, or student. They will give a brief synopsis of their chosen book.

I love a good mystery novel, a gritty detective hunting down the clues, secretive witnesses, and so on. I started my love of mysteries as a kid, reading Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew books before moving into Agatha Christie, Martha Grimes, and Sue Grafton as a young adult. I would rather read a good book than watch an excellent movie, even better if the book is part of a series. Some characters you just don’t want to leave. I was delighted when I discovered author, Karin Slaughter, last year. It was great binge reading the Will Trent series. The series starts with Triptych. The Will Trent series takes place in Atlanta and features GBI special agent Will Trent, his partner Faith Mitchell, and Angie Polaski. Karin Slaughter’s website describes Triptych as a “gritty, gripping firecracker of a novel, the series breaks thrilling new ground, weaving together the threads of a complex, multilayered story with the skill of a master craftsman. Packed with body-bending switchbacks, searing psychological suspense and human emotions, Triptych ratchets up the tension one revelation at a time as it races to a shattering and unforgettable climax.” One of the things I love about the author’s work is her ability to keep hooking you in with the characters in the series. There is always some new layer to pull you deeper into the series and add to complexity of the characters and their relationships. Take GBI Special Agent, Will Trent, and his dyslexia. You will discover how he compensates for his dyslexia on the job, how he keeps it a secret, how it creates difficulty for him in pursuits during a case and his personal life. You will find yourself pulling your hair out and rooting for him through it all. If you want a new crime fiction series to read and love, check out Karin Slaughter’s, Will Trent, series!
