About the Book

Room By Emma Donoghue

If you like books that are so interesting & get you standing up in your chair with suspense, you’ll love this book! The book Room is one of those books that has a lot of turns in the story that want to keep you reading. These kinds of books, I love…

The book Room is about a woman who gets kidnapped by a guy named Nick. In the seven years that she was locked up in a room, she had a child named Jack. The book starts off with it being Jack’s 5th birthday. A usual kid’s birthday would be going out and having a small party with other kids. Poor Jack never got that. Jack had to sleep in a clothing closet and hide from Nick every night, so he wouldn’t get hurt. When his mother decides he’s old enough to know what is going on, his mother tries to explain to him that Nick is not a good person, and they need to leave. She tried to explain to him there’s much more than just that one room. After Jack understands a little, they come up with a plan to say Jack is dead. They try to make it look like he’s really sick and then dies.

Nick puts him in a rug and goes to bury him. Little does Nick know he fell right into their plan. Their plan works out as Jack jumps out when Nick stops. Luckily a man was walking with his dog when Jack jumps out, and Nick has no choice but to run. During this point in the book it really gets your adrenalin running, and you really wonder what’s going to happen next. The man calls the cops, and Jack was taken to the police station. Then he has to save his mom. Jack explained what he saw when he got out. Without Jack’s help, his mom wouldn’t have been found.

Soon the cops find the mother and put Nick in jail. She and her son are finally safe after many years of Nick raping her and him treating her child horribly. As sad as it is, little Jack has never been outside in the real world; he was as scared as can be. He thought everything he saw on TV was made up but soon realizes the world is a lot bigger than what he thought. Jack has to live with his grandma until his mother is stable. His mother tried to commit suicide with pills.

I can’t imagine how scared she was, and I bet she felt hopeless. During this book though, it shows that this woman is very strong and passionate about keeping her son happy. For seven years she lost herself but soon found her purpose coming back out into the world. When she is better, she and her son move on to better things. They finally have a life, and a good one.
